March 25, 2020 Update

Hello BUSD Families and Staff,

I want to thank you all for your patience and support of BUSD as we navigate through our school closures. As you know we are currently closed until April 10, 2020. We will keep you updated if the governor makes a decision to keep schools closed further. My message today will support our student's continued learning through an online platform.

Moving forward, our learning to our students will be completed virtually. Most teachers have created a Google Classroom that will have student assignments and work to be completed. Their virtual classrooms will also provide contact information as needed. Teachers and counselors will be available virtually from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, should you or your students have additional questions or support on the work needing to be completed. Students in preschool through kindergarten will not have work to complete via the internet but will be completed in packets. Your teachers in those grades will be contacting you individually to gather that information. If a teacher in preschool or kinder does not contact you by Friday, March 27, please call 719-1200 to provide us that information.

I have approved our Technology Department to be ready to assign a Chromebook laptop to any household that does not have a computer. In order to request a computer, the parent or guardian must complete the short form found below.

TOUA has sent out a listing of all the communities that have Wi-Fi, so you can call TOUA for that list if you do not have access to the internet at home.

Meals will continue to be delivered to districts, so please contact your district or community liaison to get the latest information on meals.

I finally want to add that I am proud of our BUSD staff that has been working to provide instruction and meals to your children. We are living our vision to love, encourage, and prepare our students to take on the world by embracing our Himdag. Even though many of us are anxious about what our new future holds, we still believe in our work to serve our students and our communities. Please take care of yourselves and feel free to reach out to us at 719-1200 for any additional supports you may need.

Thank you,
Dr. Edna Morris

Read and Response Information

We have been having a bit of confusion when it comes to the reading homework our students have nightly. To avoid further confusion all students will have the same read and response homework form to complete. Please answer the following questions on the form: date, listener, title/pages, and reaction/summary. Students must read a book of their choice for 15-25 minutes a night to someone and then write a short summary about the story they read.

If you have any questions please contact your student’s teacher for further clarification.
